Joint statement of EU and global industry & trade associations on International Customs Day 2025

On the occasion of the International Customs Day 2025, which falls on 26 January, Ecommerce Europe and other 22 co-signatories have issued a Joint Statement on fostering a strong partnership between customs authorities and the trade community. In line with the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) 2025 theme “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity”, we call for:

  •  increasing investment in customs operations
  •  ensuring more efficient and stable IT systems
  •  strengthening border security
  •  upskilling and training the customs workforce

This Joint Statement comes at a crucial time as discussions on EU Customs Reform intensify, and aims to emphasise the critical need for effective public-private partnerships to address the growing complexity of global trade and to achieve greater efficiency, security, and economic prosperity. As we navigate the complexities of modern trade, this collaborative approach will be vital in shaping the future of the EU and international customs systems.
