Ecommerce Europe is the united voice of the European Digital Commerce sector, representing the interests of companies selling goods and services online to consumers in Europe. Our mission is to act at EU level by engaging with policymakers to create a better regulatory framework for all e-merchants. Ecommerce Europe is a platform where our members can stay informed, exchange best practices, and define common positions on EU legislation impacting the sector.

We are a young and enthusiastic team looking for an experienced Policy Advisor, based in Brussels, who will work as part of the policy team on payment-related and data-related EU legislation.

 

Job description

  • Manage all aspects of the advocacy work under the e-Payments Working Committee of Ecommerce Europe (e.g., Digital Euro, Payment Service Regulation…).
  • Manage the advocacy work on, specifically, data-related legislation (e.g., GDPR, ePrivacy, advertising…) under the e-Regulations Working Committee, in cooperation with the Policy Director and the other (senior) advisor(s) involved in this committee.
  • Gather intelligence on and analyse relevant EU legislation in the fields mentioned above, draft position papers, amendments, briefings, detailed policy updates and reply to public consultations.
  • Engage with members and provide them strategic guidance, seek compromises and coordinate Ecommerce Europe’s lobbying efforts in the fields mentioned above.
  • Engage with relevant EU stakeholders on behalf of Ecommerce Europe, build and participate in coalitions with like-minded organisation.
  • Represent Ecommerce Europe in internal and external meetings (including the European Commission’s Expert Group on the application of GDPR) and events (occasional travelling).
  • Organise relevant policy-related meetings and events, in cooperation with the team when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of Ecommerce Europe’s Strategic Action Plan.
  • Ad hoc support for communication, event planning and occasional administrative tasks.

 

Background and qualifications of the candidate

  • At least 3 years of working experience in EU trade associations, other lobbying organisations, relevant companies or EU institutions.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field such as European law/studies, Political Science, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Excellent analytical skills with regards to EU legislation and drafting skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills e.g., with members or other stakeholders.
  • Experience in preparing and executing public affairs strategies and campaigns.
  • Experience with policy files related to payments and/or data-related legislation (ideally related to e-commerce or retail) would be a strong asset.
  • Excellent spoken and written Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
  • A proactive and dynamic person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong interest in e-commerce-related policies at EU level.
